Set within the protected landscapes of Nikko National Park, UNWIND HOTEL & BAR Okunikko is a quiet forest retreat shaped by mid-century design, mountain air, and the stillness of nature.

Set in the highlands of Okunikko, the hotel offers a place to step away from the city and follow the natural rhythm of the mountains — whether walking through the forests, soaking in warm baths, or unwinding by the fire.

More than a place to stay, it is a place to unwind: to read, rest, dine, bathe, and reconnect with the natural pace of Okunikko.

SURROUNDINGS

Beyond the temples,
another Nikko unfolds.

Nikko is known around the world for its richly decorated temples and shrines. Travel farther into the mountains, however, and another side of the region begins to reveal itself — a protected highland landscape of forests, lakes, wetlands, waterfalls, and clear mountain air.

The journey to Okunikko winds up Irohazaka and continues past Lake Chuzenji and the open wetlands of Senjogahara. As the road climbs, the air grows cooler, the scenery becomes quieter, and the presence of nature feels increasingly close.

From lakeside walks and forest trails to waterfalls and scenic drives, Okunikko invites guests to explore at their own pace. Each season brings a different landscape: fresh green in spring, cool mountain days in summer, vivid autumn foliage, and forests covered in deep winter snow.

ONSEN

Sulfur-rich waters,
framed by tall conifers.

Fed by the natural hot springs of Okunikko Yumoto, the baths are filled with sulfur-rich mineral water — often described as one of the most sulfur-rich hot spring waters in Japan.

The water shifts in color with the light, air, and natural conditions, from milky white to shades of emerald green. In the open-air bath, tall conifers rise beyond the rocks, inviting guests to look up into the clear mountain air as steam drifts from the water.

ROOMS

All 46 guest rooms offer 35 square meters of space, with forest views and a calm, wood-toned interior inspired by mid-century design.

King Room

With its generous 240cm-wide king bed, this room provides a peaceful space to relax and take in the natural beauty of Okunikko.

Twin Room

Equipped with two 120cm-wide semi-double beds, this room provides plenty of space for a relaxing stay with friends or family.

4-Bed Room

Designed for families and groups, this room features two 120cm-wide semi-double beds and two upper bunk beds, accommodating up to six guests.
