Stay to Knit: HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU Launches a “Solo Knitting Retreat Plan”

Stay to Knit. Lifestyle Hotel HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU Launches the “Solo Knitting Hideaway Plan,” a Stay for Losing Yourself in Knitting, Starting October 1.Relaxed Knitting Meetups for Fellow Knitters Will Also Be Held Regularly from October.

About the Solo Knitting Retreat Plan

Since opening in 2013, HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU has followed the concept of “Meet Local. Feel Global.” We’re a lifestyle hotel built for connection, where travelers and locals come together. Besides our guest rooms, we have plenty of shared spaces, including a lounge, a kitchen, and a rooftop with a sweeping view of Tokyo’s old downtown. Guests spend their time however they like here, and many enjoy the laid-back feel of a hostel abroad.

What makes our hotel special is that you can switch between “me time” and “easygoing time with others” depending on your mood that day. Hide away in your room and enjoy your own company, or share a space with others in the common areas. It’s completely up to you. Step outside and you’ll find yourself in Yanesen (the name for Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi, a classic old-town area of Tokyo), a neighborhood with deep roots in craft culture, dotted with retro shops and cafés. You can also take a trip to Nippori Textile Town, a street lined with fabric and craft supply stores.

As a new way to enjoy your alone time, we’re introducing the “Solo Knitting Hideaway Plan,” available to book from October 1. Knitting at home is great, but sometimes a change of scenery is just what you need. So why not tuck yourself away in a hotel and knit? We’re offering you time in a private room where no one will disturb you, so you can focus on nothing but your knitting.

Knitting has taken off, especially among young people, thanks in part to K-pop idols sharing their own projects. Today, it’s more than a passing trend. More and more people are picking up their needles as a “digital detox,” a chance to put their phones down and keep their hands busy, or as a way to practice self-care. At the same time, many everyday knitters tell us things like, “I knit in the little gaps between parenting and housework, but I’d love a solid block of time just to knit,” or “When I knit outside the house, I feel self-conscious, or I can’t find enough space to do it comfortably.”

With knitting more popular than ever, we’re suggesting a fresh way to spend time at a hotel: “Stay to Knit.”

Your room comes with a setup that helps you get lost in your knitting more than ever, including a large desk and a light to brighten your work. Keep those hands moving, and when your eyes or shoulders get tired, take a break with herbal tea of your choice, sweet treats, a hand massager, and eye care items. Need a change of pace? Move to the open lounge or the rooftop and keep knitting in the fresh air. Finish a project you’ve been working on, or cast on something brand-new. It’s all up to you. At a hotel set up just for knitting, enjoy as much time as you want, knitting at your own pace.

Plan Perks That Make Knitting Even More Fun

We’ve put together some special perks to make your knitting time even more enjoyable. Pick out your own “welcome yarn” from our yarn bar, filled with colorful skeins. When you need a break, relax with cookies shaped like yarn buttons and a cup of herbal tea. You’ll also get an original “Knitting in Progress” Do Not Disturb card (*1), a classic hotel item we’ve reimagined just for this plan. You can even take it home and hang it on your door while you knit. There’s also an original booklet packed with tips and behind-the-scenes stories for enjoying knitting in the hotel and around the neighborhood. It includes ideas for spending your stay too, so this booklet alone will make your hotel visit even more fun.

We carry mainly Japanese-made yarn, chosen for its quality and how easy it is to knit with, in colorful shades that make knitting a joy.

We also offer knitting lessons in the shop. They’re perfect for complete beginners, and you’re welcome to drop by for advice anytime you get stuck on your own project.

Our goal is to be a place where people can keep knitting freely and happily.

Key Visual Drawn by an Illustrator Who Knits

The key visual for this plan was created especially for us by illustrator Shoko Sakamoto. Since she’s a knitter herself, she brought her own perspective to the piece, giving it a soft touch that suits the world of knitting. It shows a woman completely absorbed in her knitting on a hotel bed, surrounded by yarn and other knitting goods. The whole idea behind the plan, “Stay to Knit,” is captured in a single illustration.

The key visual goes beyond social media. It also appears on items you can take home, like the booklet given only to plan guests and the “Knitting in Progress” door sign (Do Not Disturb card).

Shoko Sakamoto / Illustrator: Instagram

Based in Sapporo, Hokkaido. After working as a graphic designer, she became an illustrator. She creates illustrations for a wide range of media, including packaging, magazines, and posters. She especially loves drawing everyday things like plants, animals, food, and scenes from daily life, all with a warm, gentle touch. She values capturing shapes and textures in ways photos can’t, and works closely with each design and project to create illustrations that feel friendly and familiar to everyone who sees them.

Plan Supervisor: Maro / Solo Time Producer

Through her own media outlet “Ohitorisama.” (meaning “Party of One”), as well as her writing and media appearances, she shares why time alone matters and suggests ways to enjoy it. She created the original story for the manga Ohitorisama Hotel (art by Makihirochi, published by Shinchosha), and her books include Dakara, Hitori Seoul (Shufunotomo), Ohitori Hotel Guide (Asahi Shimbun Publications), and Hitori ga Ii Tabi (Wani Books). She also produces solo-traveler projects for companies and runs a community where people connect through their time alone.

Being able to dive deep into something is one of the best parts of having time to yourself. As your hands keep moving, the clutter in your mind can just melt away. Knitting is one of those things that lets you lose track of time completely. I’d be so happy if people could enjoy it as a new way to recharge, in a hotel space that feels like a natural extension of everyday life.

No Stay Needed to Knit: Day-Visit “Knitting Events” Are Also Coming

Alongside the launch of the “Solo Knitting Hideaway Plan,” we’ll be holding a series of “Knitting Events” starting in October 2026. These are day events open to everyone, not just hotel guests. They’re a chance for people who share the same hobby to gather in a relaxed way and spend time knitting however they like, so even more people can enjoy the experience of “knitting at a hotel.”

For each Knitting Event, we’re inviting people who are active in the knitting world, whether through creating, teaching, or sharing online, to host a knitting meetup at the hotel. Enjoy a special time knitting together while getting to know each host’s unique style and world. Please check each host’s social media for event details and how to book.

Host 1: Wataami -My Little Knitting Shop- (Social media: Instagram / lit.link)

Hi, I’m Wataami, a 27-year-old knitting artist!

I started my work as a maker in 2024 with a project called “25-Year-Old Making Her Debut at Design Festa in 50 Days.” I now sell handmade knitted accessories meant to be your “everyday companions,” and I’ve hosted more than 40 knitting meetups so far.

I want these few hours to fly by, chatting about knitting, other hobbies, and all kinds of things, until you suddenly realize you’ve been totally lost in your knitting. More than half of the people who join are new to knitting meetups, so please feel free to come along!

Knitting event dates and times:
・Dates: Friday, October 16; Sunday, October 25; Friday, November 20; Saturday, November 28, 2026
・Time: Fridays 19:00–22:00 / Saturdays & Sundays 13:00–16:00
※A reservation is required.

Host 2: Aoiro Knit, Misako Toyama (Social media: Instagram)

Certified hand-knitting instructor of the Japan Handicraft Instructors’ Association. I currently run knitting classes in Chofu and Shibuya that feel like a knitting meetup or a knit café. All kinds of people come to my classes, from beginners to experienced knitters, of all ages.

Every class is a free-style lesson, so you can work on whatever you’d like to make, whether it’s crochet or knitting with needles. I hope people can enjoy a fun knitting time while sharing their favorite projects with others over tea or coffee. My wish is for these classes to be a place where knitting gives everyone a little boost of energy.

Knitting event dates and times:
・Dates: Thursday, October 22; Saturday, October 31; Monday, November 9; Sunday, November 22, 2026
・Time: Two sessions each day, 10:30–12:30 / 13:30–15:30
※A reservation is required.
