Yokohama Lantern Night: An Exotic Summer Escape Near slash kawasaki

This brutally hot summer just keeps going, doesn’t it! But we’ve found the perfect spot for an evening stroll on one of those warm nights.

It’s just one train stop from slash kawasaki! At “Yokohama Bay Quarter,” a shopping mall a 3-minute walk from Yokohama Station’s Kita-Higashi (North-East) Exit A, “Yokohama Lantern Night” is happening right now!

The event runs through Wednesday, September 23, 2026 (a national holiday).
Hours are 10:00–23:00 (light-up starts at 17:00).

This year it’s a special edition celebrating the 20th anniversary of Yokohama Bay Quarter’s opening!

Lantern festivals have become hugely popular in Japan in recent years. We introduced a lantern event at a different venue last year, and this time we decided to check out this one!

Step into the venue’s open-air plaza and you’re greeted by rows of dreamy, wonderfully colorful lanterns! Before we knew it, we’d taken a whole camera roll’s worth of photos!

There are plenty of benches and spaces to relax, and inside the mall you’ll find lots of cafés and restaurants, too! Grabbing a takeout drink and lingering for a while is a lovely way to spend the time.

Even though it’s held outdoors, a nice evening breeze picked up right as the lanterns lit up beautifully, making it a really comfortable place to be.

We also spotted plenty of people visiting with their dogs and enjoying a photo session together.

It seems different hands-on events are held depending on the day.
