It seems it was originally founded under the name “Panya no Shokudou.” Back then, a regular customer who often had an upset stomach would always order omelets and rice. Concerned that serving the same thing every day was a bit monotonous, the founder, Shigeo Kitahashi, decided to create a special dish by wrapping ketchup rice in a thin omelet. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with customers exclaiming, “This is delicious! What is this?”
When asked about the dish, Mr. Kitahashi spontaneously replied, “Let’s call it ‘omurice’ by combining omelet and rice.” And that, they say, is the origin of “omurice.”
The main store, built in 1950, exudes a dignified charm with its traditional sukiya-style architecture, showcasing the essence of Japan and its captivating atmosphere.
From the classic chicken omurice to options like mushroom omurice, hayashi omurice, mentaiko (spicy cod roe) omurice, and tempting choices like shrimp fry topping sets or cheese-infused variations – the menu is so diverse that you’ll find yourself wanting to try everything!
