2026 Sapporo Cherry Blossom Guide: A Cozy Lodge Stay at UNWIND HOTEL & BAR SAPPORO

Spring arrives late in the north. While Tokyo sees green leaves by April, Sapporo is just getting started. The cherry blossoms here typically bloom during Golden Week (late April to early May), offering a perfect second chance for those who missed the season on the mainland.
But spring evenings in Hokkaido are still crisp and cool. That is why your choice of hotel matters. UNWIND HOTEL & BAR SAPPORO offers a unique “Urban Lodge” experience. It is a place where you can retreat from the chill, gather around a fire, and enjoy the warmth of a mountain lodge right in the city center.
Here is your guide to a cozy spring trip in Sapporo.
Quick Planning Notes (2026)
- The “Late Bloom” Advantage
If you visit in late April or early May, you can see the cherry blossoms. This often coincides with the “Golden Week” holiday, so the city is lively and full of energy.
- Convenient Location
Our hotel is located in a sweet spot. We are just south of the bustling Susukino entertainment district but close enough to the serene Nakajima Park. You get the best of both worlds: quiet nature during the day and exciting nightlife just a short walk away.
- Dress Warmly
Do not let the word “Spring” fool you. Temperatures can drop significantly at night. We recommend bringing a warm coat so you can enjoy the night blossoms and our outdoor terrace comfortably.
Spot 1: The Neighboring Oasis
Nakajima Park

This is the most convenient spot for our guests. Located just a short walk from the hotel, Nakajima Park is a massive urban oasis. It features a large pond, historic buildings, and over 400 cherry trees.
- The Vibe: Relaxed and scenic. You can rent a rowboat and view the blossoms from the water, which is a classic Sapporo spring experience.
- Access from UNWIND HOTEL & BAR SAPPORO: A 2 to 3 minute walk. The park is practically in our backyard.

Spot 2: The Shrine Walk
Maruyama Park & Hokkaido Shrine

For a more traditional experience, head to Maruyama Park. It is adjacent to the magnificent Hokkaido Shrine. Seeing the cherry blossoms against the backdrop of the shrine architecture and the mountains is truly spiritual.
- The Vibe: Lively and classic. Pick up a bento nearby, spread out a picnic sheet, and enjoy it under the blossoms while the park buzzes around you.
- Access from UNWIND HOTEL & BAR SAPPORO: About 35 minutes by subway. Take the Namboku Line to Odori, then switch to the Tozai Line to Maruyama Koen Station.

The UNWIND Spring Routine
Wine, Fire, and Sweet Endings
After a day of walking in the crisp spring air, coming back to the hotel feels like arriving at a warm cabin. We have curated services to make your stay warm and charming.
1. Free Wine Service

Kick off your evening with us. Every day from 17:00 to 18:30, we offer complimentary wine to all staying guests. The lobby is designed with heavy timber and warm lighting, making it the perfect place to relax and plan your dinner.
2. Bonfire & S’mores at Bar Ignis

This is the highlight of the night. At our 10th floor bar, Bar Ignis, we offer a customizable S’mores Bar.
- The Experience: Roast your own marshmallows over the flickering fire. You can customize your plate with chocolates and biscuits to create your perfect treat.
- The Rooftop Terrace: We have a rooftop terrace with a fire pit. Since spring nights can be chilly, we provide warm blankets so you can enjoy the fresh air and the warmth of the fire without worry.
- The Pairing: We recommend pairing your s’mores with a seasonal Hot Cocktail.
It is the ultimate way to unwind and loosen up both your mind and body.
3. The “Shime-Parfait” Tradition

Sapporo has a unique food culture called “Shime-Parfait” (finishing the night with a parfait instead of noodles). You do not need to go out to find it. Bar Ignis serves delicious, handcrafted parfaits that pair perfectly with alcohol. It is a sweet end to a long day.
