Q: When did you start working here?

I started working here part-time four months ago. Before that I had just graduated from high school in Osaka. When I was looking for a part-time job, I found this position and it looked like it would be a way to expand my horizons because I can meet people from around the world. Then when I came for the interview, the other girls seemed really friendly and welcoming. I’m really glad I found this job.

Q: Nice! Are you also doing other part-time jobs?

I also work part-time at One Galbi, a chain all-you-can-eat yakiniku restaurant, as part of the kitchen staff.

Q: What do you enjoy about working here?

Everyone is friendly. Both the Japanese people and foreigners are really easy to talk to and I can learn a lot about other cultures. Not just the restaurant staff, but the front desk staff is also fun to hang out with. I got to know them by going to the office and interacting with them little by little. I’m closest to Chinatsu-chan and Riko-chan.

THE LIVELY OSAKA also has a lot of events like takoyaki waffle events on Fridays and Saturdays, which is popular among foreigners. It’s fun to interact with foreigners. Also there is free beer, which is rare. Foreigners like beer a lot, so it’s fun to meet them and talk to them about differences between Japanese beer and foreign beer.

Q: What are your goals for the future?

Originally I thought I wanted to study film at a professional training college, but since I started working here, I have met so many people from around the world and they have inspired me to want to travel overseas. I have also learned a lot of English from the guests. In particular, I’d like to visit Canada, Australia and Korea. I want to visit Canada because a lot of Japanese students study overseas there and they say it’s a safe country. It’s quite random, but I want to go to Australia because I heard there are a lot of blueberry farms there so it would be fun to do working holiday there and eat blueberries all the time. I want to go to Korea for the makeup and to see all the cute people.

Q: What are your hobbies?

I like watching Chinese mystery dramas. I stumbled upon one randomly then was surprised to find out there are so many interesting dramas. Once I start watching, I can’t stop.

Q: What do you like about Osaka?

The people are really friendly and warm, more so than in Tokyo. Everyone acts like they are close to each other.

Q: Do you have any recommended food in Osaka?

There is a wagashi shop near my home called Shiraho and I recommend their red bean donuts. My mom really loves their ichigo daifuku.

Q: Where do you recommend tourists visit?

I recommend Osaka castle and Dotonbori at night.

Q: How long have you been working here?

I have been working here for one year as a part-timer. I also work at a curry shop., Right now I attend a professional training college, where I study nursing and will graduate in one and a half years. I plan to continue working here until then. I really like working here because the staff is really nice, especially Suzune-san. It’s super easy to talk to her.

Q: Nice. What inspired you to study nursing?

My grandpa went to the hospital two years ago. It was my first time at the hospital, so it was my first time seeing nurses work and I was really moved by how hard-working and cool they looked.

Q: What did you do before working at THE LIVELY OSAKA HONMACHI?

Before I started working part-time here and studying nursing, I worked full-time as a chocolate seller. Before that, I studied French in university. There are a lot of French guests at the hotel so I am able to talk to them a little bit and keep up my language skills.

Q: Where do you recommend tourists visit?

I recommend Umeda because the area is really nice and clean compared to other parts of Osaka like Namba and Shinsaibashi. The shopping center has a lot of stores and there are also many delicious restaurants.

Q: What do you recommend tourists do in Osaka?

There is a lot of of delicious food, so please enjoy going to izakayas and eating takoyaki. THE LIVELY OSAKA HONMACHI also has a really amazing course menu that I recommend trying.
