Today I would like to tell you about Sapporo’s best new local secret Tanuki COMICHI which opened this August.
Tanuki COMICHI is a small alley full of restaurants and shops referred to as “yokocho” in Japanese. You might have heard of famous ones like Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku, or Nonbei Yokocho in Shibuya, Tokyo. Tanuki Comichi is packed with great restaurants and omiyage souvenir shops as its referred to in Japan, (a little different from typical ones you’ll find in the West, since they have delicious food!) from around Hokkaido.
Prepare for a gourmet adventure because Tanuki COMICHI has over 20 different shops to choose from. If you’re having trouble choosing where to go, remember that it’s okay to order just a few dishes in Japan! We recommend going to multiple restaurants and trying a few of the famous dishes from each one.
Today, I’d like to especially recommend my favorite restaurant in Tanuki COMICHI’s amazing lineup, Shihachi Sengyoten.Shihachi Sengyoten is famous for kaisendon, or bowls of the fish market’s freshest raw fish over a bowl of rice. I especially recommend trying the higawari, which is a menu item that changes every day based on whatever the catch of the day is.
Shihachi Sengyoten – Sea Food
Shihachi Sengyoten is operated by a fish market connected to the restaurant so you can go right next door to choose the seafood of your favorite seafood and they will prepare it right there on the spot! If you don’t have time to go to Sapporo’s famous Nijo Fish Market, Shihachi Sengyoten is a great way to enjoy the same fish right near the hotel.
