Enjoy ‘Licorice Pizza’ Under the Stars: Rooftop Movie Night on June 15th

As we head towards summer, the temperature is steadily rising, but the nights are still cool, aren’t they? On our rooftop at night, you can enjoy a chill atmosphere while gazing at the illuminated Skytree.

At HOTEL GRAPHY NEZU, we host a rooftop movie night called “Rooftop Movie Night” every third Saturday of the month.

This event is designed to foster connections among attendees in a relaxed atmosphere, so both food, drinks, and conversations are warmly welcomed during the screening! Why not enjoy watching a movie while chatting with friends and other guests on our refreshing rooftop?

In June, we’re screening “Licorice Pizza”!

Although it’s just before the rainy season, the temperature is gradually rising, and you can feel the early summer atmosphere. This month, we have selected a movie to help you get ready for the upcoming summer.

This month’s movie is “Licorice Pizza.”

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, this film set in the 1970s San Fernando Valley in America was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

Even if it was blindingly bright, I couldn’t take my eyes off you.

Set in the 1970s in the San Fernando Valley near Hollywood, high school student Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) was a thriving child actor. Alana Kane (Alana Haim), on the other hand, was working as a photographer’s assistant with no clear vision of her future.

Gary falls in love at first sight with Alana, who comes as a photographer’s assistant for a high school photo shoot. “It’s fate that we met.”

Gary’s persistent invitations lead to the two having dinner together. “I’m a showman. It’s my calling,” says Gary, full of confidence and without a doubt about his future.

When Gary asks about her dreams and likes, Alana answers weakly, “I don’t know.” Despite this, the distance between them gradually closes.

At Gary’s urging, Alana auditions for an acting role and meets veteran actor Jack Holden (Sean Penn) and director Rex Blau (Tom Waits). She also starts volunteering for Joel Wachs’ (Benny Safdie) mayoral campaign in California.

Meanwhile, Gary ventures into selling waterbeds and starts chatting up girls who come to his store. One day, while delivering a bed to movie producer Jon Peters’ (Bradley Cooper) house, he gets caught up in trouble.

Just as it seems the two are beginning to walk their separate paths, they keep meeting and drawing closer. Will they continue to miss each other as they go along their respective journeys?
