ONSEN
Hot Spring Baths
Soak in sulfur-rich hot spring water while looking up at the tall conifers and clear mountain sky of Okunikko.
At UNWIND HOTEL & BAR Okunikko, the baths are fed by the natural hot springs of Okunikko Yumoto, often described as having one of the highest sulfur concentrations in Japan.
The water may appear milky white, pale blue, or even emerald green depending on the light, air, and natural conditions — making each bathing experience slightly different.
Source-Fed Sulfur Spring That Changes Its Expression
Okunikko Yumoto is known for its naturally sulfur-rich hot spring water. With a gentle sulfur scent and a soft, mineral quality, the water is one of the defining features of this area.
As it comes into contact with air, the water often turns milky white, and under certain conditions, it may show shades of emerald green.
The baths are source-fed, without circulation or added disinfectants, preserving the character of the spring as closely as possible. The water temperature is adjusted automatically to maintain a comfortable bathing temperature of around 42°C.
Open-Air Bath Surrounded by Conifers
The open-air bath is built with rocks from Mount Nantai, creating a natural, grounded atmosphere.
Beyond the rocks, tall conifers rise toward the sky. As you soak in the water, your gaze naturally lifts upward — toward the trees, the mountain air, and the changing light of Okunikko.
Rather than a bath fully enclosed by forest, the experience is defined by the view upward: steam rising from the water, trees standing high beyond the rocks, and the sky opening above.
Indoor and open-air public baths are available for staying guests.
Bathing hours: 3:00 PM–12:00 AM / 5:00 AM–10:00 AM. The men's and women's baths do not switch.
Please bring towels from your guest room. As the hot spring water may discolor accessories, we recommend removing jewelry before bathing.
